Obituaries – John Steiner: An Appreciation

Bill Utter informed me that John Steiner died on June 3, 2000, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at age 91. John was a jazz historian, a record collector, the owner of Paramount Records, and, last but not least, a Bixophile. John was a consultant for James Robert Grover’s Thesis  “A Series of Nineteen One-Half-Hour Original Tape-Recorded Radio Programs on the Life and Music of Leon Bix Beiderbecke” submitted in 1971 to Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts. Bill Utter was the executive producer and narrator of the radio program series. I will provide additional information about John Steiner’s career in the next few days.
